There's something that makes Saucy feel especially happy about fall and it is the arrival of fruit pie season. It's a tad unfortunate that neither Veto nor Loopy eat pies filled with apple, pears or peaches... and Buddy Budderson is so busy with school it's never a sure thing that he will show up and eat his share of dessert anymore. Saucy is deprived of most of her pie-making fun in this situation.
She was especially glad to have a chance to put together a nice, high apple pie over the weekend in Ontario to serve to Veto's family... although she was a tad intimidated. It's a well-known fact that Aunt Daisy is one of the greatest pie bakers around Essex county. Saucy secretly had her fingers crossed the entire time that pie was in the oven.
The Inmate has one of these jazzy pie crust shield from here. Saucy needs one, and she needs in now. She is cool with ordering it online but if any of her local peeps sell the stuff, give her a shout. She's an easy mark right now.
Because... ahhh... look. Pie perfection. Not too dark around the edges but just ever so slightly dark on the cutout leaf bits that she made with the dough scraps.
The verdict? The pie worked out and even Uncle Buck said the pastry was "excellent" and that made Saucy (who was extremely relieved) very, very happy. She would like to take credit for the recipe but in truth it's the Williams-Sonoma one found here and she's used it for years. It's never failed her.
Also... Saucy is a huge fan of the Pampered Chef deep dish ceramic pie plate that MJ gave her but the deep aluminum plate that The Inmate had on hand was pretty great, too. On a lark, after running some errands around Windsor, Saucy popped into the local Value Village and guess what she found? A nice, deep aluminum pie plate just like that one. It was four dollars, people. Four dollars.
Imagine all the pie possibilities.
