Saucy got home late last night from a week in the Arizona sun. She did some stuff, she saw some things. She got a little sun and she did a little shopping.
Oh, you can bet she found some great deals on some Juicy wear for her and Loopy. The girls hit the shops while Veto hit the Barrett-Jackson Auto Show. Do you want to know what else they hauled back?
A few bottles of LoArann's Bakery Emulsions. Baking emulsions are water-based concentrated flavourings that won't "bake out" when heated. They are alcohol and gluten-free. Saucy picked up a few and she'll let you know how it goes.
When she's south of the border, Saucy stocks up on Kool-Aid in flavours she can't get at home. For some reason she can only get strawberry-kiwi up here in Canada and they don't sell cherry anymore at all. You know she also uses this stuff to tint and flavour buttercream, right?
Pillsbury cake mixes aren't available here in Canada, and nobody sells any type of red velvet mix. She stocks up as best she can but since she's flying home, she's limited to the number of mixes she can bring back at one time *sob* these will be gone before you know it.
Saucy always has her eye out for anything cute to put on top of a cupcake. On this trip she picked up mini Pop-Tarts, nonpareils in different solid colours (multi coloured ones are so yesterday) and some of the new Jet-Puffed Mallow Bits in vanilla and peppermint.
These dessert toppers caught her eye. They were a pain to haul back but she might not regret it if they add neat flavours to cupcakes or frostings. Again, Saucy will keep you posted.
In the hotel room at night, she enjoyed Ben & Jerry's ice cream in flavours not available close to home. You can bet that she carefully washed out the tubs and brought those home filled with little things to keep safe on the trip. She has a collection of Ben & Jerry's tubs... nerd. They make cute storage in the craft room for bits and baubles.
She might have enjoyed a bottle (or two) of nice dessert wines. This Chocolate Shop wine was rich and tasty... she could get used to having a glass at bedtime every night, but this was a holiday!
At Williams-Sonoma, the heart pocket pie molds and the heart shaped sandwich cutter were both on markdown, so... yeah! Heart shaped fun for everyone!
At ABC Baking Supply and Sur La Table, Saucy picked up an abundance of Ateco piping tips and one 8" baking ring. She has a plan for the ring, if it works you will see the result here someday soon. As for the tips, she has had a couple of requests about which tips to buy and what cupcake effect they give so watch for a tutorial next week. Next week at this time, Saucy and the Cheerios will be knee-deep in cupcakes again for a special event.
Of course, the Cheerios make out like bandits. Pop-Tarts in all sorts of crazy flavours were found. Those really filled up the suitcases fast. Poor Veto, all that lifting.
Saucy also found the perfect kelly green hair extension clips for the Cheerio's ponytails. So, so cute.
Loopy mostly shopped for treats for her peeps but she managed to talk Veto into a Pikachu hoodie like this at Hot Topic.
Yep, nerdy.
And from the Betsey Johnson store, a tiny little top hat with a veil was procured for a mere twenty dollars. Coming soon, to a photo shoot near you.
Well, Saucy had a nice little break. She and Loopy spent a day at a cheerleading competition and that gave them some food for thought about the routine so she's called a few extra practices over the next couple of weeks. She also has some unfinished (and very bloggable) projects spread out around the house so she needs to tackle them even though Veto is as understanding as Ryan Gosling himself and doesn't mind the mess too much.
It also appears that most of Saucy's vacation purchases are just excuses to come up with more projects.
And that's just the stuff she can show you right now. She needs to keep a few surprises up her sleeve yet! After all, the Cheerios read this blog.

I love your shopping trips. And I think it's so funny about flavors. I feel the same way about some stuff when we head north! LOL Glad you had such a good time!
Oh! I wish I could drag you to some of my favorite shops in Omaha! I'm the only one in the fam nerdy enough to enjoy so many colors of sprinkles and sugars. Also, the selection of Pop Tarts at our Hy-Vee is huge! I'm not sure those are good enough reasons to haul your cookies to Nebraska but, you know, I'm just sayin'.
oxoxo

Fun trip! Can't wait to hear how the emulsions work out. I've been curious...
welcome back
Nebraska, Saucy hears you calling her name... She needs a good pit stop to load up on Pop Tarts, junky cereals, sprinkles, craft supplies and as much nerd shopping as she can muster!
How funny that you can't find those things back home. And I have to say, I don't know anyone with as big a sweet tooth as you!
Oh Saucy, I cracked up when I saw that you got some Schweddy Balls ice cream! I washed out the container too-- it's now part of my regular kitchen christmas decor.
Those mini pop tarts are soooo cute--- and sooooo perfect for you and your cheerios! I had no idea those existed!
Hugs,
Jill
Any chance you could leak your sources in Arizona? I would love to find these great items too. Love reading your blog by the way!
I love going into the grocery stores when we are in the states. The super Walmart in Minot is amazing, they have the most fantastic varieties of cheeses, I love me some cheese! I always bring my kids back lots of pop tarts and cereal, and of course some cheddar bacon cheese in a can, mmmmm!!
My Arizona sources aren't too exotic! Here's my list:
Baking supplies: ABC Baking (link is in the post) - go there for piping bags, tips, cupcake toppers, pans of any shape and size, sprinkles galore!
Ice cream: Fry's Signature Marketplace has the best selection and prices but I found the Shweddy Balls at AJ's Fine Foods
Baking emulsions: found at AJ's Fine Foods in Scottsdale. Check the baking aisle, near the spices and vanilla. They seem to have a different selection at each store.
Mallow bits: Hard to find! I snagged the last of them at Target (Desert Ridge)
Cake mixes: found the best price right now at Safeway, they were $1.25 each. At Fry's they were $1.89 and AJ's they were $2.49... of course.
The Chocolate Shop wine was from Total Wine but I also saw it at Fry's and Albertson's. It was least expensive at Total Wine. There was an awesome zinfandel port at AJ's called Justin. It was sooo delicious!
Otherwise, when I hit the States, you can find me prowling every Target I see until I have as many Pop Tarts as I can find. We shop at Scottsdale Fashion Square and hit every Nordstrom Rack - they're programmed into Veto's GPS! The Juicy Couture was on sale for $19.99 at Last Chance on East Camelback. There was TONS, including bathing suits, pyjamas etc. We found shorts, velour and terry pants and hoodies. We try not to miss going to Kierland Commons (always checking Tommy Bahama and Juicy Couture).
Saucy and Loopy ADORE Big Lots - we found so many cute things for the Cheerios there but we can't say what just yet! Veto hates that place. We had good luck on this trip there!
Also, there is a miniature dollhouse and toy store on North Scottsdale Road that has great food minis. It's near Nordstrom Rack in a strip mall....
We also went to Smeeks Candy because we heard it was so great but it was a disappointment to say the least so don't bother. Everything was just stuff from Target, Michaels and the Dollarama repackaged and quadrupled in price. Not cool. :(
Hey - Superstore carries a presidents choice red velvet cake mix - Not sure if it s year round thing or seasonal but I saw them on the shlef as late a two weeks ago - will check again next time I go to work!
Thanks so much!! You are a doll. My husband travels through Arizona and beyond. He is great for finding fun stuff and this will make it so much easier . :))
Saucy, I was mesmerized by your sprinkle shelf, which came to be the inspiration for a kitchen island being built by a cabinet maker as we speak. Will send photos upon its arrival. Anyway, if you are ever desperate for something in the states, holler my way. Would be pleased as punch to send you a care pkg or two in an emergency. Candy
How hard is it for your readers to send you food items from the states? Does Canada have restrictions in place as to what Americans can send you?
Drat! A month too late! LOL! Glad you had a great shopping & travelling experience! If you keep this post on your sidebar, perhaps Canadian tourists (ahem, myself) won't bug you as to what you stock up on when we go south! LOL!
Guess what Sausy? I just found Red Velvet Cupcake mix at Sobeys! It is Betty Crocker and it comes with Cream Cheese Flavoured Frosting! It only makes 12 cupcakes though and I bought it for $3.99. I'm going to experiment with it tonight and let you know how it goes.
Yes, let me know! A bunch of us were speculating on Facebook about them today. It seems expensive but I suppose the icing being included is how they justify it! I think it only makes a dozen, right?
Tell me what you think!
In the meantime, on the red velvet front, I've convinced my local Safeway to stock the Duncan Hines RV cake mix. I "liked" Safeway on Facebook, wrote on their wall, and... voila! Got the email today! They just wanted to know which Safeway I shop at regularly so they can send it there.
Also, I played with that Lorann's RV baking emulsion today. I'm not super impressed with the colour, but I used it in a yellow cake mix. I might have to try it with chocolate mix. I'll keep you posted, too!
