new smile

Saucy grabbed the camera on the way out the door yesterday. At the park at the end of the street, she snapped a few shots of Loopy's new smile - without braces - for you to see and admire.

When she asked if Loopy wanted to take out her retainer for the pictures, the answer was "no." Because you see, if the orthodontist asked Loopy to wear the appliance 24/7, then she will... even for pictures. It's not that bad, you can barely see it anyway.

We have often been asked why we chose to see an orthodontist in Calgary - so far away from us. Yes, we have orthodontists here, but the doctor in Calgary offered the Damon System and for Loopy, it was worth the drive.

Treatment time is usually much shorter with the Damon System. Low-friction is applied with a continual gentle force allowing the teeth to move with less friction. This is different from the forceful tighten-pain-relax-tighten traditional, cyclical treatment. The Damon braces take the full development of facial aesthetics into account and a full, wide smile is achieved without extractions or the use of palate expanders. (Saucy didn't even rip that from the website, she wrote it herself, she's that juiced about these orthodontics).

The orthodontist was pretty psyched about it, too. He could really talk your ear off about modern orthodonture treatments. Don't you want someone so passionate about their profession working on your kid? Dr. Brown gave Loopy a gallon of Kernels popcorn to celebrate her braces coming off, too. It was pretty cute.

Loopy is now proudly sporting her natural, wide, full smile. All of her adult teeth are in tact and fully aligned. She also has permanent retaining wires glued behind her top and bottom front teeth.

If you'd had access to braces like that, you'd be smiling from ear-to-ear too. Did you wear braces? Saucy did... for almost six years. She's glad (for Loopy) that things have changed.

She looks amazing!! Very natural, you made a great choice. I never had braces as a child, teeth & bite were straight.Though I do have a tad of a "gummy smile", I'll pass on getting it fixed, the surgery is kinda odd. Lucky girl, braces off before sr. pics!!

She looks beautiful, as always. What a gorgeous smile. Lizzie may need braces and it might be worth the drive to Calgary.

It would be worth the trip for sure! Everyone at the office was great.

Oh, and there is a huge new expansion at Chinook Mall, just down the road from Dr. Brown's clinic. Here's hoping for some followup appointments!

Do you have any "before" pictures handy? I would love to see the difference. I'm a sucker for before/after makeover photos.

She looks beautiful! I wore braces.... twice! Ugh. Should have gotten those wisdom teeth out like they told me. Oops.
It's the best (and slimiest) feeling to get them off.
Congrats to Loopy!

I never had them and I wish I had. It was like a rite of passage or something. My parents said they thought my teeth were fine and I should be happy with what God gave me, but in reality they were just cheapskates. My mother, on the other hand, had a face lift.

She is beautiful and her smile is gorgeous! I always wanted a beautiful smile like hers. I also wish I had known as much as you about orthodontics when my sons were getting their braces years ago. I think going the distance was so worth it.

Congratulations Loopy!!! I had the old ugly, painful silver braces in high school... you'd never know from my snaggle/ Nanny McTooth I have... I wonder if I too could benefit from this? But I wonder if I'm too old to be doing such things?
Saucy, I've got the goods you requested!

What a great smile!!! Went through that three times with my kids, and then myself(as an adult)! I made the orthodontist some jack-o-lantern cookies with braces on our last visit:)

Congrats on the wonderfully straight-teethed smile! Considering all that Loopy has gone thru to achieve it, I'm sure her teeth will last her a lifetime!

Congratulations, Loopy!! That's one gorgeous smile!
I had braces in college...awkward, but so worth it. It was lifechanging to feel free to smile without being self-conscious. That's HUGE. No regrets... except that I didn't have the same system as Loopy!

Ok, so I called my 4 year old son in to see the turkey cupcake pictures, and then he saw Loopy.
Big smile, sweet voice, "She's pretty!"
