Welcome to the Wedding Blog Party, hosted by Stephanie at Angelic Accents. It just so happens that Saturday marks the sixth wedding anniversary of Saucy and Veto (pictured above on their special day).
This is Saucy's wedding outfit as it was pictured on the Pronovias website in early 2004. She ordered it online, peeps. And yes, those are pants. Saucy heard the murmurs of "is she wearing pants?" as she walked down the aisle to "Dancing Queen" by Abba.
This is Saucy all gussied up for the big event. No veil, just some feathers in her hair... and a boa for the photo shoot.
These are the flamingos that dotted the sidewalk leading up to the venue. Guests who RSVP'd via the wedding website were told to follow the flock to find the celebration. Oh, and Saucy was a little late for the ceremony. Why? She had to stop at - you may have guessed it - the Dollar Store.
These are the pretty pashmina shawls that the bridesmaids wore. At first, Saucy eschewed the idea of the bridesmaids wearing matching dresses... but they were each at odds with deciding what to wear and in the end, and decided they would be much more comfortable in the same sundress. A suitable one was found and Saucy splurged on the shawls - now those would be worn again. The dress, not so much.
There was some good laughter during the ceremony. Saucy and Veto were married by Veto's retired boss and business mentor. He'd been ordained as a Commissioner for Marriage just for the occasion. Just like Joey on Friends, but without the costume.
There was some tradition...
... and there was a bubble machine.
Saucy is sad to report that her wedding ring lost a stone over three years ago and she has yet to have it repaired. In truth, she'd had it resized to fit over her swollen knuckles when her arthritis flared back in '05, and now it is almost two sizes too big. The whole thing is just a mess right now and she'd rather not think about it, so she won't.
Saucy arranged all of the wedding flowers herself the night before the wedding. She and The Fan and Buddy Budderson sat around the kitchen table and pulled them together.
Each bridesmaid had a different bouquet - with the flowers that they'd had in their own weddings. Their bouquets also matched their shawls.
Instead of floral centrepieces, there were goldfish bowls. Guests with children at home were invited to take them home at the end of the evening.
There was tailgating before the ceremony. Bags of popcorn were served for guests to munch on while they watched the big show.
There was a candy bar and a tower of doughnuts for the groom's cake. The favours were... you guessed it... sprinkles. This paid homage to Veto bringing Saucy some sprinkled doughnuts on their first date. Who wants flowers, when you can have pastry?
Saucy made and decorated the wedding cake. Each tier was a different flavour: chocolate for Saucy, lemon for Veto, and some vanilla and red velvet just because. Saucy got a little carried away making royal icing roses in the weeks before the wedding... she had enough for an entire cake and then some.
In the evening there was dancing to a DJ and also to a Beatles tribute band. The dance floor was busy until three o'clock in the morning.
There was a wedding cake pinata for the children filled with candy and toy wedding rings.
It was a beautiful day. Sometimes, Saucy just loves to look at the photographs and remember all of it. Six years has gone by so quickly. If you would like to see the wedding theme Christmas tree that is decorated with flamingos, doughnuts and bubbles, click here. Happy Anniversary to us, Veto! We are so lucky.
As is Shayla B., the winner of the Flip HD video camera! Shayla... send Saucy an email (address is in the sidebar) with your mailing info. Thanks to everyone who entered!
The relocation and blog redesign is still in the works. Uncle Bug has been hard at work and Saucy has now enlisted some outside help. Stay tuned. Hopefully things will be back to normal around here soon. Saucy has much to show you, and a few little giveaways to share with you.
