chunky funky necklace

Mountie Wife and Red came over to Saucy's tonight. It seems that Red is invited to a swanky party on the weekend and needed a little something to push her new LBD (little black dress) over the top. It was decided that pieces of jewelry from the dollar store would be clipped, snipped and reworked into something suitable for an occasion. It actually took three pairs of hands, yes it did.

Hmmm... Saucy is thinking that she should have photographed "the guts," or the actual purchased pieces that were reworked into this funky pearl-and-ribbon piece. Well, you can imagine, Dear Reader. If Red were to saunter into an event with all that Dollarama bling around her neck as it came out of the plastic wrap, she'd be a laughing stock.

It's funny, isn't it, how a mashup of junk from the dollar store that you'd never dream of putting around your neck can turn into something just the opposite?

The guts were reworked by twisting and turning and interlocking and weaving the existing pieces, some of them being snipped to size and some of them needed to be made longer to ensure some maximum contact between strands... Saucy didn't want it to shake apart when Red shakes it on the dance floor.

The inspiration for this piece can be seen here. Saucy also has a pretty big piece in the works - two of them, in fact. They might be ready to show you later this week.

Oh, and today there was another Cheerio photo shoot and Saucy has promised herself: this time, she will not stay up late into the night looking at all of the lovely pictures. Okay, well just a few. But she's not showing any of them to you until tomorrow, so there!

The pearls and beads at our dollar stores do NOT look as nice and the ones at YOUR dollar store...wish SO bad we had a dollarama! ;-) It looks EXACTLY like the inspiration piece, and I LOVE it!! Fantastic job!!

Saucy, you are amazing!!! Since I've been invited to a Stella & Dot party this friday, I might just have to go to get some inspiration for a masterpiece of my own. Especially with the high prices of everything I'm in love with! Why spend $300 when I can just take Saucy's Money Saving Wisdom Advice and hit up the local Dollarama!!! What would we ever do without you?

Beautiful necklace - a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that will surely complement her LBD. Favour please -when you post the photos from the photo shoot, could you also include details of which Photoshop actions (if any) you use? Your photos are always so amazing - I would like to be able to duplicate some of your effects.THX

One of the amazing things about Canada is the quality of the dollar stores - we are all hooked! It's the first place I check when I have a project cookin' - even before Michaels!

Yep.........I have to agree...you Canadians certainly lucked out with the Dollarama!...our Dollar Tree is pretty good.....but not THAT good!! I'll have to make sure I stop in one when I'm up visiting when you open a cupcake shop.....now that would be a strategic location!! Right next to a Dollarama :)
