Happy Birthday, Loopy! She's really got the hang of this teenager thing: the cell phone, the Facebook, the chatting, the cheerleading. She's a good kid and she's fun to hang out with so I am enjoying these times with her. We didn't plan an all-out birthday party this year, but the Cheerios are meeting at Build-A-Bear Workshop on the weekend to stuff a mascot, so that will be like a little party. I'm putting together some Valentine treat bags.
I always find Loopy some sort of conversation heart goodies for her birthday... this year it was pyjama bottoms and some cologne.

Oh, and a reader left a comment on one of my recent posts about having problems with my new buttercream recipe. I assured her that it would be fine, as I was myself going to be using it over the weekend. It seemed her buttercream was turning runny and goopy and no amount of mixing could fluff it up.
So, off I went to the kitchen, eggs at the ready and whisk in hand. Things were going along nicely... until I had the same problem. Undaunted, I tried again... same thing. I started to worry about perhaps the moon going out of alignment or some such thing and gave it a third try - same gloopy, gloppy mess!
Veto stepped up to the plate, ran out for more butter. Then he ran out for more eggs. Then, sensing my frustration, he realized that I'd swapped out the measurements of water to sugar for my simple syrup! I checked the blog, and my recipe was correct there, but I'd switched it in my mind... so I'm wondering if that happened to Jenni, too. It was a simple mistake, I just wasn't reading carefully and Veto reminded me that I was tired, we'd just returned from our trip, and thought perhaps I should just stick to the tried-and-true recipe I usually use.
No way. Once I realized that I had to use the thick simple syrup, I was on a roll... and at close to midnight... wrapped up the conversation heart cupcakes in time for the weekend event. I'll share that business with you tomorrow.
We interrupt this blog for a public service announcement!

Action For Nature is a non-profit organization looking to recognize youth ages 8 - 16 for their creative environmental projects or activism. Previous "Eco-Heroes" have created websites, organized events, and even built garden habitats for butterflies!
It's amazing what kids today are passionate in. Some of the Cheerios take part in the environmental programs at school, and Loopy herself makes those fabulous albums out of repurposed bags and envelopes. If you know a student who might qualify or be interested in applying for a scholarship from Action for Nature, let them know that the deadline for applications is looming... February 28th. You can find out more information about the awards here. Check out some of the amazing things previous winners have accomplished... you'll feel compelled to put down your coffee and go sort your garbage. That's where I'm headed... see you tomorrow.

Happy birthday to Miss Loopy. I can't believe she's fifteen!
Hope Loopy had a great day! Thanks for organizing the necklace swap! The girls were thrilled to go through my goodies when I go home and take turns wearing my necklace.
I think CJ is well on her way to being an environmental activist ~ remember it was her idea to clean up the playground at her school on Earth Day last year! She's also becoming more aware and concerned about animal's habitats that are being destroyed. She is such a good girl!
Happy birthday, Loopy! Enjoy your conversational hearts! Perhaps you'll find some of the earrings at Claire's?
I have a 15 year old too - what a big year. Where did you find the pj bottoms? We have a thing over here for sweethearts.
Truly a sweet fifteen! Enjoy that party!
Happy Birthday Loopy. It is so encouraging to hear that a mom & her teenaged daughter have a great relationship. Keep up the good work!
Happy Bday Loopy!!! I love the pajama pants and the cologne. Too cute! The cupcakes are beautiful.
Awe Happy Birthday (albeit belated) to your GORGEOUS daughter!
i have been sick all day... and have booked tomorrow off as well... as I promised the one little man in Kindergarten cupcakes for our party on Friday....he was the only one not invited to one of the kids B-day parties ( really parents how cruel is that!! I am sure there was room for one more sweet boy) promising cupcakes for him and I to decorate was to only way to console the poor guy!
Wishing Loopy a belated Birthday!
needing to try that new butter cream icing! so smooth and silky!
I can't imagine leaving one little boy out, especially in Kindergarten! It must have been a very gross oversight.
I have a funny story: when Buddy was in Kindergarten, the teacher had a rule right at the start of the year - you invite everyone of the same gender to your party or do not have a party at all. She must have seen some drama. Anyway, Buddy and another boy shared a birthday by one day. So, I got an early jump on things and sent out invites to all of the boys (there were only five of them, Buddy included) over a week prior to the party date.
Well, the mother of the other birthday boy sends out invites a day or two later - for the same time! The exact same date and time! And asks for an RSVP. So I call her up, and explain, we're having Buddy's party right then, did she know that or perhaps her kid didn't bring home his invite?
"Oh, no" she said "I knew exactly that you were having his party then, that's why I picked the same time. This way you can have some guests and I can have some guests, we can split the kids and won't have to deal with too many boys!"
Okay, first, could you not have asked me to do this? Second, now put the boys in the position of choosing which party to attend? Third, you've booked some fabulous event at Ruckers and although I have fabulousness planned, it's at home and nobody knows me well enough yet in this circle of parents to realize that it will be pretty cool, so they actually think a home party sounds lame compared to an afternoon at the play arcade, so guess who's going to pick what party?
Finally, there are only FIVE boys in the class!!! Take the two birthday boys out of the equation, and only three guests are left at all.
We scrapped our party plans. Buddy was crushed but we did something cool as a family and then I had a "Pirate Party" for him and his friends a couple of weeks later.
Gah. Some people. The politics of birthday parties.
Cool environmental organization there--I'll have to post it on Eco Women. Many Happy Returns to your beautiful Loopy. I'm so glad she's mastered teen-dom.
Happy Birthday, Sidney!! Hope you have a GREAT day! (my girl turns 12 on the 12th!)
Happy Birthday sweet Loopy. Hope your day was extra special
Karen
