top ten projects of 2009

To recap my favourite projects of the last year, I compiled my annual list... but there were more than ten in total. Starting with the third runner up...

The fairy jar I made for my cousin Kelly (aka The Inmate) featuring her daughter Moira as an adorable captured garden fairy. A birthday gift in May.

Second runner up: the Valentine swap I participated in, one of the few swaps I had time to do this year. I used the playing cards that my Mother in Law brought from me from Paris. I knew they were destined to be used for something special.

First runner up: shutting down the blog on April Fool's Day for a prank. Not easy, but worth it.

And now... drumroll please... my Top Projects of 2009:

Number 10: the quick revamp of the main floor powder room
on a Friday night by Loopy and I.

Her first attempt at hanging wallpaper, but under my supervision, it still went up upside down. This was pointed out numerous times by the readers at apartmenttherapy.com, where it was featured. We were still happy with the overall look and thrilled that it was featured there.

Number 9: Loopy Photo Shoots

We still had fun with our ongoing project from 2008, me experimenting with my camera and Photoshop more in-depth, and Loopy experimenting with different hair colours.

We got pretty adventurous with our styling sometimes!

We even trashed a funky old wedding dress that we found at a thrift store.

If our computer hadn't failed in upload, we might have had a chance in the GARAGE Model Search of 2009... maybe 2010 will be our year.

Number 8: The Halloween Baking Event

The lovely ladies/local readers joined me for a day of preparing spooky Halloween goodies to share at parties and with their tricksters. We made chocolate armpit hair, booger balls, earwax on a swab, used Band Aid cookies, and other delicacies.

Number 7: Hosted Charm Bracelet Swaps

I hosted three super-successful online swaps for Halloween and Christmas:

And at home, hosted local charm party swaps for Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas.

One lucky reader won a bracelet from the Halloween swap:

... and another won one of the Christmas kits!

Number 6: Cupcake Saturday in June!

The day before Father's Day, I had a live cupcake tutorial for twenty local readers and an online celebration of cupcakes for those who couldn't join us in person.

Happy cupcakers at work! The cupcakes produced were no doubt enjoyed by dads and granddads all over town the next day.

Number 5: Loopy's Juicy 14th Birthday Party

In February, Loopy's gal pals were invited in for an evening of couture crafts and deliciously "juicy" treats.

They assembled special Juicy-Couture-inspired charm bracelets with the charms that I'd collected and made for the occasion.

A snazzy paper cake centerpiece was filled with "Juicy" styled candy necklaces:

The birthday girl celebrated surrounded by her friends with a red velvet cake that I attempted to fashion after a Juicy handbag.

Number 4: Cupcake Buffets!

I organized not one, but two cupcake parties in 2009! One was a fundraiser for Loopy's school in March:

The other, a dessert buffet for Saskatchewan Scraps in November.

I never knew so many cupcakes could be cranked out in so little time. I'm breaking a sweat just remembering it.

Of course, I'm looking to plan another for the new year. The Cheerios need team jackets!

Number 3: Opening my Etsy Shop

I was finally inspired to open my own Etsy shop and offer a selection of fun and funky charm bracelets.

There were plenty of special orders, especially for Jonas Brothers theme bracelets!

I added the very popular iPod and iPhone earrings and they have been flying out of the shop at breakneck speed.

Most recently, I've added a line of vintage-inspired bracelets and necklaces using vintage coins and charms that I have collected at flea markets and antique shops.

Number 2: Our Amazing Jonas Brothers Concert Ticket Giveaway in July

We were so fortunate to get hold of two pairs of tickets to see the Jo Bros live on their summer tour, so we decided rather than scalp them, we'd share the wealth with a fellow Jonas fan.

In July, we were tickled to meet Poopsie and her Auntie in Edmonton, where we all attended the concert and got to know each other! We made friends for life.

Number 1: Loopy's Grade School Graduation, June

My house was a disaster zone for a few weeks while a group of dedicated parents worked, fundraised and planned for the most amazing grade school farewell party, ever.

First priority: to fundraise and purchase a new podium for the school auditorium. We just made it in time.

Pepper and I gathered up each and every student in the class and took portraits of them around the school grounds for the slide show we put together.

It was a daunting task, but as you can see, we had beautiful models to work with.

Now look closely at all these smiling faces... they're now some of my Cheerios, so you'll see more of them in 2010.

The "graduate" herself! Pink streaks in her hair and Converse high top sneakers on her feet! A fashion statement.

There were cupcakes in school colours, of course. Served on an amazing dessert and ice cream sundae bar.

Loopy and her pal Casey made candy corn and hard crack candy for the event on a cool summer day.

There were games, prizes, there was music and dancing, pizza, and a photo booth.

... and some very happy kids spending their last evening together as a group before entering high school. All the hard work was worth it.

Whew! I'm tired just reminiscing about all that happened in 2009. All I can say is: brace yourself. 2010 is looking even better.

You did have quite a busy year. I forgot to mention that I sent on the package to you last Monday. I sent it priority so they guaranteed 6-10 business days. They didn't offer delivery confirmation to Canada, so please let me know when it reaches you. :)
