quick bathroom makeover

Last night, Loopy and I put up one simple roll of damask wallpaper in our powder room. I found it last week in the clearance bin at Home Depot.

Here is the "before" of our little guest washroom... it was fine but it had no personality, no spark. It is painted a nice powder blue shade and I'd put up a bit of the textured wallpaper behind the mirror and painted it the same as the walls... still, no spark.

Now, plenty of spark! I filled a jar with my glam crystal collection. The red and white damask looks gorgeous against the powder blue. I think it's my new favourite colour combination.

Although, I admit that I rethought the red after visiting Crave Cupcakes in Calgary. I adore powder blue and chocolate brown... but I've done that throughout the house in various ways. We needed something new, something dramatic.

Now I think I need to find red hand towels, don't you agree?

Frank Sinatra is framed near the sink. It's Frank's world, we just live in it, remember?

Friends, Miss Loopy herself hung half of the wallpaper, including the very tricky last pieces that needed to be sliced together... you know... when you run out of matching bits and have to use what you have in that awkward spot behind the loo. She did that part, all by herself... and look, you can't see where the bits meet. She's got a knack.

I really {heart} damask. Can you see why?

Edited, July 31: Friends, a few of you have pointed out that the pattern is upside down and I do believe you are correct. Loopy and I debated about it as we pulled the paper off the roll. I insisted that paper came off the roll "right side up."

I went upstairs to our bedroom to inspect the damask hanging behind the bed. It is the same pattern in brown and pewter. It was hanging the other way, we'd had it put up by a professional. I decided at that point, there was probably no right side up or right side down for damask... do you think I was wrong? Is this going to drive me crazy?

Well, I can always keep my eyes peeled for another roll in a different pattern and colour and change it again in the spring...

How is it that you can hang a clearance-section wallpaper up and completely transform a room? I LOVE it. Seriously. It's gorgeous. Frank would approve. :)

I love red and powder blue! I just can't seem to commit to it on the walls-- but maybe I can get the hub on board showing him this one! Gotta finish the kitchen first though :)

Brave, visionary and inspiring! Not to mention technically impressive. Who knew a powder room could do so much?

As for the other reason for living, just when I'm feeling good about Halladay, then I remember Ortiz. Not a happpy day.

F A B U L O U S!!!!!!! Love it. I have wallpaper in my bathroom and it transformed the room, I dont know why more people dont try it. Bathrooms dont have to be just a clinical functional space. X

Bee-u-tee-ful. Love it. I definitely need to hire Loopy when I wallpaper the big wall in my living room when Javier goes away on holiday!

Upside down... I debated about that one... but wallpaper comes off the roll "right side up" so I went with it.

I have a similar pattern to this in brown and pewter in our bedroom, the other way 'round. I looked at this and thought... what the heck... do you think it is a major screw up??

I say rather its upside down or right side up it looks fabulous so who cares????

Yeah it's upside down, but it looks great anyway ;) Call it a statement!

Loopy did an amazing job! Really nice powder room - but I would expect nothing less of the Saucy and Co.

love it Saucy! have youe spied the cupcake cookie jars at Pier 1?

Saucy said...

Yes, that's it! Upside down damask is the new anti-establishment statement in decorating.

We are sticking it to The Man, whoever that is.

Saucy, I love the wallpaper and I like how it's hung. I looks like hearts to me. Some red towels would look wonderful. Your little guest bathroom is so elegant.

It is good. It evokes a sense of chandelier. Leave it.

We saw the hearts in it too! Lurrved that. Veto thinks it may be upside down but assures us that it looks okay... so, okay.

I love the pattern the way it is. If you're happy, who cares what is "right-side up?" Are the wallpaper cops gonna come after you? Leave it and enjoy it.

Love the paper, be it upside down or not. How about Dark, rich navy towels or if you do red, find a trim with the pale blue? Think it would really pop.

Miss Quoted said...

upside down? really? I have no idea ... it looks great and glam to me!

Editorial! Yes, that's it! Editorial.

Speaking of, Loopy's next photo shoot is going to be JUST THAT!

It is very pretty and I wouldn't worry so much about it being upside down. Your guest may never care. I love the red, but I'm a bit biased. Red is my fav color!

Tamara Jansen said...

I think it looks FANTASTIC! Love that bold choice of red. It's definately right side up :)

queen-of-nostalgia said...

I lurve it! Right side up, down, sideways... it's all relative, right? Half full, half empty... same thing :) You and Loopy are Half Full kind of gals, so I say how you have it is right :) LOVE the colors!

Makes me want to some decorating in my bland house...

OMG Sauce! Your place is like a hotel. A very luxurious hotel! I would love to just wonder your house for a couple of hours and ooooh and awwww. You are just so beautifully talented! I love the traditional, upscale decor! Oooooooooh!

I think that the paper is just lovely. You both did a great job hanging it, and the way you hung it is fine...especially since you love it so and it looks like little chandeliers hanging there... perfect with the Hollywood glam!

Love it!

I think it is just gorgeous. Rich and warm and pergect for Frankie baby. is it upside down? heck. I am upside down, dizzy and out of step wuth most people and things. i LOVE imperfection and things that are just a little different. Keeps folks guessing. : )

I think it looks BEAUTIFUL and looks just perfect the way it is! I think you are right that there is no real right side up with damask, I think it can go either way!!

GREAT job Loopy!

You know what screw it that the pattern is upside down. I would have never known and thinks it looks fab. Don't you just hate that some people just can't wait to tell it was done wrong-start a new trend.
