salted caramel mocha cupcake

Inspired by the perfect beverage... the Starbucks-Inspired Salted Caramel Mocha Cupcake.  Gadzooks, it is delicious.

Of course, if you are wondering how I did it, I will have to tell you.  Let me just say that I used my basic altered cupcake-mix recipe but for the one cup of fluid I used one cooled cup of Starbucks delicious house blend coffee.  I had to cool it and not drink it as I drove home, that was quite a trick.

The next trick was to acquire the right toppings.  Veto surprised me on the weekend with a bottle of Starbucks Caramel Sauce, knowing my addiction to the salted caramel beverage.  It all started last fall when I fell hard for the Salted Caramel Signature Hot Chocolate, but over the winter it morphed into a full lurrve-in for my "tall half-caff mocha with salted caramel topping."

I ventured into my neighbourhood Starbucks this week to see if I could purchase some of the sea salt topping they have been baiting me with for the last eight months.  Unfortunately, they don't actually sell the garnish, it is made for them.  My awesomely-friendly barista explained that it is actually carmelized sea salts that are roasted for flavour.  Then she could see my wheels spinning and I explained that I just really wanted to make a cupcake... and guess what?  She gave me a bottle.   I just about cried.  No, really.  Grown women cry over things like that.  It happens all the time.

You'll notice a few changes around here.   I hope that you can still find your way around.  It must be the vibe of spring and all things new, but I felt the need to shake things up and clear the cobwebs out of the corners of the blog and start anew.  It's the same old bloggedy-blog blog that you usually visit, and trust me, I just lurrve having you over... but I hope it looks nice.  Suzy's suggestion of "Sprinkles" as a blog name inspired me, and it suited this little online spot we've been building.  When I started this blog three years ago today I obviously didn't put much thought into it, or I wouldn't have the worlds worst URL on record.  The gradual move to the name Sprinkles reflects the content of this blog as a living, moving journal of my life, my family and my hobbies.  Yes, I have contacted Suzy and her just reward is on its way.  That's how I roll.

It has evolved to be a fairly integral part of my life and I just have to say, the most rewarding part of keeping this blog up to date is you.  Whether you are one of my followers, a fellow blogger peep listed to the left, a regular commenter or a lurker, I lurrve each and every one of you.  Comments make my heart go pitter-patter and emails make my day.

So, brace yourself.  Veto gave me the go-ahead for a pretty awesome celebration of three years a'blogging.  Tomorrow, be prepared to drop your cupcakes.

Oh, you don't want to see me drop my cupcakes. My cupcakes aren't worth the dropping. The cracks that emerge are just , well, not suitable for a family blog.

Happy blogiversary!

the salty carmel mixture reminds me of a dessert we had at a restaurant at the Opryland resort in Nashville -- there is a great restaurant there, in case you find yourself there one day, called Old Hickory Steakhouse --- and they served a dessert of ice cream and popcorn, with caramel sauce -- it was HEAVENLY! Who would have thought that ice cream, popcorn and caramel go so well together.....same idea as your cupcakes I think -- the ice cream had bits of popcorn in it, but I just use vanilla, and it tastes just fine. Then top with popcorn, and liberally add caramel sauce, and finally, a sprinkling of salt...hmmmmmm....makes me want some for breakfast right now!

Carmelized salt? Imagine the possibilities. Try telling a salesperson at Tiffany that you are making cupcakes with jewels on them, maybe they will give you something!!!

Love the Saucy Salty cupcake. I did one like that in the Daring Baker Challenge. You should really join the Iron Cupcake Earth now, you and Loopy would have so much fun coming up with new cupcakes. This month's ingredient is Soda Pop!
Thanks for the shout out!

It's not the worst blog url in history! I thought it was rather entertaining when I came across it. The caramel looks delicious on that icing but sadly I despise coffee and everything related to it. I know. I'm weird. I take it the hot chocolate version of the salted caramel is still amazing though. Congrats on the three years!
