cupcake party!

Today I put some posters up around the school to build anticipation for the cupcake sale we will be having at the upcoming community family dance.  It's amazing what you can do with some poster board, a jumbo Sharpie marker and some watercolours.  I did the lettering and Loopy drew the cupcakes.

Being a control freak, I asked the parents to bake cupcakes using the instructions on my tutorial and to make my never-fail frosting recipe, but not to decorate the cupcakes themselves, to bring the cakes and frosting to the school kitchen on the day of the dance and I will pipe on the icing.  Pepper and The Fan and some of the other mothers will be on hand to do the sprinkling.  It will be a regular assembly line.

That's how we used to do things back at the bakery when I worked on the finishing line one year when I was a student.  Except when I had to decorate birthday cake I often left the "h" out of the word birthday and well, you can't sell a cake that says "Happy Birtday Irving."  It was somewhat problematic as one can imagine.

On the bright side, I ate a lot of sheet cake that year.

On the down side, I gained a lot of weight that year.  I learned the hard way:  you can bake it, you can decorate it.  You just shouldn't eat much of it.

At least this time there won't be any writing involved,  just cupcake embellishing.  We will be offering chocolate, vanilla, mocha, Oreo, carrot, red velvet, lemon, strawberry and a few secret super surprise offerings from Loopy.  And then you won't have to hear about cupcakes from me again for a long while.

Unless of course Loopy comes up with a new combo she'd like to try.  I'm pushing for a "salted caramel chocolate" recipe... anyone?

Go on with your bad cupcake self Saucy! I sent my mom pics of the lemon meringue cupcakes and she said something about attempting them for Easter. YUM! Of course, I also like the sound of the red velvet, vanilla and carrot ones as well. And I'll eat just about anything with the word "caramel" in it. Hah!

Well, I know that you will indeed sell out... I must mark my calendar to stop by! Now if I could just use my Mommy Powers to figure out where!?

That will be one popular sale! I can't imagine decorating all those cupcakes! My Wilton cupcake icing thingies are safely tucked away in the cupboard, never to see the light of day soon. If I try hard, I might even forget about them.

The poster is yummy enough, I can't imagine the cupcakes. I am going to try and make your red velvet ones on Thursday.

Yum Yum!

I want to be your next door neighbor! I love cupcakes, but they never come out right (always lopsided) and there isn't a cupcake store around here! Now and again I begged my daughter to make them for me, cause hers are perfect and delish!

And, yours always look so yummy... can't want to see pics of the Dance/Cupcake party... take lots of pics, please!

Dang, now I'm craving a cupcake.

Let's hear it... what kind should we make, if we are making just twelve kinds for the party?

Just. Twelve. Kinds.

Is there anything that you haven't done, my dear? The cupcakes and the signs are great! I hope you make a ton at the dance. But hey... where's the dancing cupcake?

Yes, yes, and yes, again... in honor of your Star Buck's addiction this is the cake that we are making for Easter, this year:

I think that they would be devine in cupcake form.

These sound scrumptious. I love me some cupcakes. Or just the frosting. In our house we have two 'just the cupcake, hold the frosting' folks and two 'thanks for the extra frosting' folks. :)

I can't blame you for wanting the parents to follow your recipes, some people just can't cook haha. And I wish I could make signs like yours. My writing looks like chicken scratch though. Oh well.
