live to {cupcake} party

Oh, it was one of those days... too many things packed into too few hours. You must have days like that, too. Aside from it being the day of our big Cupcake Party in conjunction with the community family dance, Loopy had a field trip in the morning... and at lunch hour I found out that she had to dress up in the afternoon as "what I want to be when I grow up". It was too short notice to rustle up the uniform of a publicist or political correspondent... whatever that might look like, so we came up with something in less than ten minutes for her and her pal Alexandra:

Of course they were Mrs. Joe Jonas and Mrs. Nick Jonas, respectively. I just didn't have time to think about independence, feminism, and not defining yourself by the man you marry... not in less than twenty minutes. I just wanted out of the assignment in a quick and dirty way. I snatched the tulips from my front planters, threw some tulle pieces onto hair pins and dug out faux pearls and diamond rings. I'm sure that classroom teacher found it to be less than inspiring... but it was sure cute.

I dashed past my local Starbucks and rewarded that nice barista who slipped me the secret ingredient for my salted-caramel cupcakes. In my rush, I still managed to rustle up a takeout container and a Starbucks sticker *phew*.

I offered a door prize for the dance committee, and it was late last night as I put the finishing touches on "Sweet Cupcake the Bear" who resides in one of Veto's Pyrat rum gift boxes... shhh... but the bear fit in there perfectly with a cupcake gift box filled with some of our polymer clay cupcake earrings tucked inside. I also slipped in the last two homemade cupcake bath fizzies that Sassy made... I do hope she has some more to share for me (hint)! It was the perfect cupcake-themed door prize for the much anticipated... cupcake party!

After decorating cupcakes all day long, I just barely got the table set up before the dance guests started to arrive. I gathered up all of the display trays and towers I could possibly beg, borrow or steal. I asked some mothers to bring "naked" cupcakes to me and some mothers to mix frosting and send it to school. Then, working assembly-line fashion, four mothers and I decorated them: it was awesome teamwork. I piped the icing, the ladies sprinkled, sorted, packed, prepped and stored the little cakes. Doesn't the display look smashing?

Of course, Oreo cupcakes are hot sellers. What will I ever do if they stop making those bite-sized Oreos? I use them on my cupcakes and my cheesecakes.

Ah, the classic chocolate/chocolate confetti combo. These were so festive on our display.

Lemon drop cupcakes: lemon cake with lemon yellow frosting, a jelly lemon slice and yellow granulated sugar. These ones went faster than I thought they would.

My quirky offering for the evening: rainbow chip cakes with vanilla buttercream, golden sugar, marshmallow Lucky Charms cereal bits, and a chocolate coin. They were magically delicious!

For a bit of class, we called these ones "the full minty"... chocolate cake with peppermint frosting and a peppermint wafer and sprinkled with chocolate shavings.

The chocolate shavings along with a chocolate covered coffee bean embellished the mochamotion cupcakes.

Carrot cake. 'nuf said. You just have to offer it for those searching for a more healty alternative.

Mmmmm! Blue bubblegum cupcakes! From the Iron Cupcake: Earth challenge.

These should have been chocolate strawberry cupcakes but I dropped the ball (it was getting too late in the afternoon to think straight) and it is just pink vanilla buttercream on dark chocolate cake. We sprinkled them with crystal pink sanding sugar and topped them with a candy heart... but I had the strawberry extract in my kit and forgot to stir it in... feh.

One other minor glitch, the red velvet cupcakes everyone was so keen for were just chocolate because the mom who made them was a little unsure about her red food dye on hand... so we made due with plain chocolate again but I still frosted them with the allotted cream cheese frosting and red sprinkles. Honestly, nobody even noticed.

How cute! We frosted our vanilla/vanilla combos and embellished them with Nerds candy. They were a hit with the little kids of course. Nerd cupcakes, who knew?

Nerd cupcakes on display with the double-double death by chocolate cupcakes: a tower of dark chocolate frosting on a dark chocolate chip cake topped with three squares of Hershey's chocolate bar.

The table generated an awful lot of buzz throughout the evening Mad props to Loopy for manning the table almost all night long, only taking a break to... work in the concession.

Now, I have to make a mommy confession here and mention that I dragged Loopy out of the house about forty minutes earlier than usual this morning and she operated on the steam of a bowl of Cheerios for most of the day. We both did. I grabbed her a Booster Juice in the afternoon... we missed lunch because of that costume debacle... and her teacher wouldn't let her drink it in class. We worked right through to the end of the dance and missed supper too. She worked so hard and was so helpful and cheerful in spite of the neglect shown her by her mother pretty much all day.

Without complaining, she worked until the very last spatula was loaded back into the Jeep and we made our way home. She stumbled upstairs and went straight to bed, with nothing in her tummy other than a soda, a bag of chips and a cupcake that had sustained her for twelve hours. Note to readers: any potential nomination for "mother of the year" awards need be revoked or just generally mocked at this point. This neglect would surely have sent any teenage girl over the edge, but Loopy, with her Asperger's and all, took it in stride and didn't complain once. She was a trooper. Tomorrow, I promise: I will feed her.

But not cupcakes! There weren't any left... save just those few carrots. But we knew that would happen, didn't we?

Oh, and if any of you would like to post about our Jonas Brothers contest on your blogs, we would be grateful. We just want everyone to have a chance to get in on the fun!

I would have been in line for a Lucky Charms cupcake.
This looks way-to-cool. Unfortunately our schools do not allow any homemade goodies to be brought in. Everything must be pre-packaged with ingredient labels intact :(

Saucy Sprinkles,... you are over flowing with ideas. What a great job by all! How much did you end up selling the cupcakes for or were they free to dance goers?
They all look unbelieveable....I guess I have some stiff competetion in ICE now with you and Loopy.
Keep it Sweet,
Suzy

All your hard work looks amazing! Those little people probably don't appreciate the hours of work that goes into it but if my child were there to participate, I'd be singing your praises that we got to be recipients it. Great job to all the Mothers who baked and baked! Betty Crocker would be proud. :)

I like the quick dress up too, so very adorable!

Those cupcakes look beyond amazing. It must have been beyond annoying when your teacher wouldn't have let you drink that during class! Seriously! Claim dehydration or something, pull a sympathy trick on them! If my school functions looked anything like that with cupcakes that looked half as good, I would go much more.

I found Jones soda!!! And in celebration of your Iron cupcake nomination I bought the blue bubble gum kind. Can't wait for it to cool down so I can try it. And I am totally not going to blog about your give-away on my blog-I don't want lots of people to know cause I want it all for me!!!!

P.S. My DH thinks you must have your own bakery with all those cupcakes you did. I told him you were just a mom on a mission. :)

I visit your blog almost daily and I have to say that I just love it! I was also looking on etsy which I do almost daily and came upon a shop that I think you might find right up your alley - since you like cupcakes and all - it's called Cupcake Social (though by the sounds of it you may not want to look at a cupcake for sometime!) It has toppers, liners, anything you may need to decorate which I am guessing are very delicious cupcakes. I seem to drool everytime I see a picture of your cupcakes! Hope you enjoy it!

Woww, those cupcakes look really good. I wish my mom had done this sort of thing for me. No need to fear though. My stepmom does it all. I love her to peices. And I'm sure there have been days when shes forgotten to feed me too.

This blog had me heading for a 100 calorie pack! What I really wanted was to go whip up a big batch of any of those cupcakes, but, alas, my diet wouldn't be able to withstand it. (No, I don't believe in denying myself even though I am "dieting" but those cupcakes would be hard to only eat a bite of!)

OH MY GOSH! Those cupcakes all look so fantastic. I don't even know how anyone could just pick a single one! Seriously. I think I would have eaten my weight in them..and then some more! That kind of sucks that the day was so hectic though. You would think the teacher would have given something up with the Booster Juice since she didn't get to eat all day, sometimes I don't get teachers.
