sylvia weinstock, my hat is off to you

Whose birthday cake took two fully grown, intellient and capable women with years of experience in the kitchen twelve hours to create? Why, the cake for Loopy's party tonight of course. Aside from setting aside one full day of your life, if you would like to attempt such a confection you will also require the following ingredients:

The typical ingredients for red velvet cake including butter, sugar, vanilla, eggs, cocoa powder, buttermilk, red food colour, cake flour, salt, baking soda, cider vinegar and two loaf pans because you have a really good idea to build your cake.

A tiny laptop from Veto with internet access would be very handy for the kitchen counter to constantly check for instructional and encouraging email from Angela, the Wilton website and constant referral to flickr to look at the photo of said cake you wish to emulate.

The ingredients to make molding chocolate... and if you have never attempted this before, you really should because although you didn't get it right it was downright delicious and the cute little pieces that you made must have been delicious too for WHOEVER TOOK THEM OFF THE KITCHEN COUNTER AND ENJOYED THEM.

One gum paste mix or recipe and one, possibly two, marshmallow fondant recipes, one cream cheese buttercream recipe... and you may or may not also require:

Four bags of miniature marshmallows in case you spill two of them on the floor.

One bottle of vanilla vodka... one thimbleful for applying the gold dusting powder to the front of the cake, the remainder for your own consumption.

Headache medication... for The Fan and Saucy, natch. Advil, Tylenol.

A full tank of gas to run to Micheal's twice to get more food colouring and one of those little crimping rolly-tools. Don't forget your coupon, we did. You will also have to send The Fan for corn syrup, semi-sweet chocolate and food colour.

Cash to drive through Burger King at lunch and Tim Horton's for dinner because your kitchen is a disaster area.

A husband to bring you 24 pink roses because it's the anniversary of your first date... and you didn't really forget but you do have confectioner's sugar in your hair and gum paste on your face.

I still have some pieces to add and the rest of the party to prepare, I will post details and photos tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the photos of that cake. Did you take any pics of yourself with confectioner's sugar in your hair and gum paste on your face. I'm sure that would have been a sight! I'm glad you enjoyed some vanilla vodka and not only were slaving away in the kitchen without any sort of stimulant to keep you going. LOL!
