the difference between fact and opinion

Fact: Bluemuf is the winner of the birthday party charm bracelet! Let's swap emails and I will get it to you before we go on holidays of Friday!

Fact: I am still parked on the sofa, wrapped up in blankets with Duke. I kept Loopy home from school for just one more day of recovery today and this afternoon after she napped, she announced that it was time to bake again and she is in the kitchen making brownies for us. No matter what, I am trying my best to stay out of the kitchen and let her do everything herself. I can hear the rattling of pans, the beeps of the oven and the cracking of eggs. I'm sure it will be a delicious dinner for us during our recovery.

I had a little thought today while I was reading the comments in my last post about the Oscar fashions. An anonymous commenter made a jibe about my self-proclaimed talents... so I was thinking about doing a post about all of the things I can't do, or do badly, would you like that? Of course you would, but that's just my opinion.

The commenter also said something along the lines of, "and since you like facts so much"... and I don't really remember saying that I particularly like facts, although it would be safe to assume that most people, except for the occasional defense lawyer, like facts. Sure, I like facts. Facts are good. But whether or not I like an Oscar dress is my opinion, and I like to blog me up a little fact and a little opinion on occasion.
Whether or not I liked Mickey Rourke's outfit has little to do with whether or not I saw his movie The Wrestler... and regular readers of this blog know how many movies I see.

Speaking of my opinion...

We slipped out to see Coraline over the weekend, happy to just be out of the house and confident that we weren't contagious. To be brutally honest, I thought it quite boring, in spite of the amazing 3-D effects and the absolutely enchanting production. The intro started off quite promising... but at several points my mind just drifted. Maybe it was my ear infection, maybe it was the predictable "the grass is always greener/Alice in Wonderland with a twist" storyline, I don't know.

Also, don't take any kiddies under the age of ten to see Coraline. It's too long, it drags in spots and there are some pretty creepy scenes inv
olving eyeball-to-black-button assimilation that might be too intense.

If you're the type who just enjoys some fantastic eye candy and can appreciate the craftsmanship of puppetry and modeling, then go and enjoy. The two cupcakes I am giving Coraline are for design and production, and that's it. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. Get well soon. Good to hear about Coraline -- the button thing was creeping me out and I am way over 10 LOL

Dear Anonymous Commenter:
Saucey can write whatever she wants because it's usually verrrrrrrry cool and with a wonderful sense of good (not nasty, pretentious or uppity) humor.
Yay Saucey :)

Personally I like to have ice cream for supper but somehow hubby just doesn't see the nutritional value in it. Men. Glad Loopy is feeling better : )

No movies here lately, though I sure could use a little distraction!

Nothing wrong with giving your opinion Saucy.

I have never understood the need for people to leave ugly comments. If you don't like something don't read it. Easy.
I loved your breakdown of all the dresses. I forgot to DVR the Oscars and I found your post was very helpful and fun.

Congratulations to the winner of the fabulous bracelet.

As to the comment left by "Anonymous", this is YOUR blog, isn't it? As such, you are entitled to share your opionion about any subject on which you care to write. An opinion I personally value.

I respect that your name is behind what you say, not an "anonymous" entry made only to be nasty.

I enjoyed Coraline more than you did. Just a matter of taste, though the ear infection could be a factor. I saw The Hours with a headache and was astoundingly unimpressed.

Where I saw it, there was a preview that was less appropriate for little kids than the film. I think the movie is called Nine. Some kids may love scary movies, but post-apocalyptic is a concept that children should have no idea about.

"Anonymous" should just own it if they feel so strongly to post. Boo on them, I thought it was thoroughly entertaining...and while sick, no less! Brilliant!

Congrats to your winner. And your commenter is just jealous that you're so funny and insightful. That always makes people turn GREEN.

Wow. Anonymous really is captain obvious, isn't he (or she)? I think we all realize that Saucy's commentary is her opinion. What's his (or her) point? That Saucy doesn't have the right to comment on Oscar fashion becuase her title isn't "fashion critic?" Oh, but wait, fashion critics express THEIR OPINIONS. Maybe the point was that on her very own blog, Saucy should never have an OPINION. Seriously, from now on, facts only, please!
I found the commentary enjoyable. Way better than "I like this; don't like that...."

Lighten up anonymous!

Thanks for the support, everyone! I value everyone's opinion. I may not agree, but I value it.

I am always shocked when theatres play previews for mature movies at family shows. I complained to the manager of our local theatre once about that... I took Buddy and Loopy to see an animated film and we saw a preview for Fight Club!

At preschool, Loopy asked her teacher, "What is the number one rule about fight club?" and the teacher looked a little puzzled when she asked me about it at the end of the day. Loopy piped up, "we don't talk about fight club!"

Niiiiice.

Dearest Saucy,

I do so lluurrveeee your blog and it just perks up my week each time I read it.

I attempted your diaper cake this weekend and it went over well. No big hang-ups, but the biggest thrill was watching my soon to be hubby be my wing man on the project....not as well jeweled as The Fan, but he did very well. Good husband material.

I've been lurking on your blog for a while. I'm, finally, commenting because I want to congratulate you on how you handled your anonymous commenter. Very classy. I, personally, I loved your Oscar fashion opinions! For one who isn't usually interested in reading about that sort of thing, I read the whole post! You have a great writing style. Keep up the opinions!

SandraD said...

Saucy, please try not to let one poor misguided soul ruin your day. My guess is that whoever posted that rant is just jealous that he/she could not come up with a well-written blog entry. You handled it with your customary class & wit - well done! Based on what I have seen, I doubt there is anything you can't do!

First of all congrats to the lucky winner. And I do mean LUCKY! I hope you're feeling better soon. I know the feeling of letting the kids in the kitchen and trying to stay out of it. Tough stuff. As far as your downer commenter, I say boo hiss. Why do people feel it necessary to write negatively on someone's post? Is it jealousy? Are they really that sad in real life? Do they even have a life. I say, write what you want, it's your blog. And I for one, adore every one of your talents and envious. Does that mean I hate you because of it? No, it means I adore you even more. So right on Ms. Saucy. You keep on doing what you do best, which just happens to be just about everything. I say forget about the nay sayers and leave them to go through their own lives miserably. I'm your biggest fan, always! xo

Congrats to Karen on the bacelet score!

Thanks on the tip re: Coraline. If you found it boring, I'd likely be asleep within minutes of the opening credits. Darkness + boredom in theaters = naptime.

Lucky bluemuf!

Oh and about the whole Coraline movie...
Gina (age 5) said she did not want to see the movie because, and I quote, "I don't think that buttons make good eyes.... I don't like them, they creep me out" LOL!!!
I was only curious about it from an artistic angle, but you cleared it up for me. Love the cupcake rating system.

I love winning Saucy jewels.

My husband and daughter saw Coraline. I think they had the same basic take on it as you did. FYI.

Don't change a thing Saucy... just hit the delete button on comments like that. Obviously not mature enough to name them selves to talk like that.

I lurve your blog just the way it is. Blessings to you and your family to get better soon and be done with this darn sickness!

I lurves the fact that you engage your readers, Saucy. And you are free to state your opinions as you wish...my goodness this is all in good fun i say!
If a reader is going to be grumpy then that person is simply that way to everyone. It's nothing you have said or stated!
By the way~i hope you and Loopy feel 100% better soon.

"Coraline" will continue to move down to the bottom of our Blockbuster Queue for as long as possible. Which translate to "until we are desperate for something to watch."

Oh boo! I was considering seeing that movie when it came out on DVD or something but by the sounds of it it wasn't very good lol. Though I probably still will see it because of the images. Sort of like Nightmare before Christmas! And as for the person who commented about facts and opinion and what not. This is your blog. You should be able to say whatever you want to say whether its true or not haha.
