Mercury glass cake ornaments for my wedding-themed Christmas tree... but during the rest of the year they will hang in my studio. Although she never uttered "let them eat cake", we can all agree that cake suits the queen, no?
I have a wonderful copy of this print by Elizabeth Vigee-Lebrun, I need to have it framed for my studio. I wish to hang it on the wall that is a mural inspired by Marie Antoinette...
I am embellishing this mural as it suits me... it is a work in progress to inspire me and to surround my with beauty while I create.
Although The Queen predated the Eiffel Tower, it is still fitting in the context of the grand city of Paris! Do you not agree?

Long before the 2006 Sophia Coppola movie came out, I was devouring all the reading I could about Marie Antoinette. It began of course with this:
While it is scholarly and detailed, it was a fascinating read and it was the basis for the movie, although I found this book to be more true to the tone of the movie:
Finally, this book was the most disappointing of them all... it is of the "historical fiction" genre and took far too many liberties, introducing characters whom never existed and entire storylines (including a most ridiculous, unchaperoned journey to Sweden with The Queen's reputed lover, Count Axel von Fersen)... if you are a stickler for accuracy in your historical reading, avoid this book. I found it to be ridiculous.

Certainly the Queen of France would have shared her good fortune with others. Even random strangers at the Dollarama parking lot... if she shopped Dollarama, and I doubt it, so perhaps we are not as alike as I thought.

The wacky hair day picture of Kirsten looks like a Loopy photo shoot to me! I totally relate on shoes, getting out of bed, and most importantly - pedicures (and the occasional massage)!
I haven't had the opportunity to indulge my inner Marie Antoinette for a long time, but once I have a job (& the accompanying pay cheque) watch out baby! I do feel you have many similarities to the fine girl.

I went to see the movie, Marie Antoinette, as I needed to visit Versailles and couldn't travel there due to childcare obligations. Let's just say this: they didn't succeed in capturing the true breathtaking beauty of Versailles in the movie. It is one place you have to go to see, understand and experience. On Sundays, the fountains are in full working beauty. Gorgeous. Breathtaking. I can hardly wait to return.
I should have been more specific about the books... it was the last book, "The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette" that was just so silly. I made myself finish it in spite of its ridiculous subplots. Plus, I was stuck on an airplane and I had no ladies-in-waiting to keep me entertained.

You are my twin. Were we separated at birth?? Dearest heavens...we have alot in common! Felt like I was reading my autobiography. :)
I was glued to the screen when my husband and I went to see Marie Antoinette on the big screen, if past lives exist I would be so bold to say that was I. John fell asleep during the movie, I wanted to see it again. Should've went w/ the grrls. Sophia Coppola is a genius!

This was such a wonderful movie - but her fate in the end was so tragic.

"Abundance" sits on my bedside nightstand (along with ms austen and the bronte sisters), and will never ever be relegated to the common bookshelf, but only moved from its revered spot for the occasional re-reading (a gift to myself) and of course, obligatory dusting. Fascinating to note is that she never uttered the words, let them eat cake. (Rather i think she muttered, let me eat cake). xoxo

ps I am a firm believer in RAOC (random acts of kindness) or paying it forward or however you describe it...i say givin' back to the universe (I like to think uber-globally). One time i paid for the starbucks of the next three cars behind me during my usual morning stop at the drive-thru (while regal, i am, for the moment, working class, ugh)..i was told the next day that the "payoff" it went on for the next 11 cars! YAY!
ps i note that sometimes on your live traffic feed i am coming from panama city beach and sometimes i am coming from Tallahassee! Fascinating! I am from havana Florida, really. And i am an addicted lurker. :) Carry on!
