Welcome to our haunted Halloween home. I cleaned most of it today, but I saved the kitchen (the worst part) for tomorrow. Veto took us for pizza tonight so I could avoid the task for one more day. Things are almost back to normal... except for the spooky stuff, like bats flying around the hallway!

Little mice scampering about the stairs...

Martha Stewart and I glittered up the same kind of skulls and bones. Do you like them under the glass...

... or on their own?

I stuffed some jars with Halloween candy. Buddy snitches the licorice when he thinks I'm not looking, but really, who cares? It's licorice. Yuck.

I'm the most thrilled with the mantle display this year. The city workers closed our street last week and trimmed the tree canopy. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves but this knarled branch was left behind. It must have been fate. It met up with a can of black spray paint this week.

Now, it is perched up there very precariously. In fact, close examination will reveal it is supported with a little system of fishing line and push pins. These photos really don't do it justice at all.

It's a massive branch, and it protrudes from the wall behind the mantle quite a bit... making it a little... risky. Someone might get an eye poked out. Veto was not impressed. This is one of my wacky ideas he won't warm up to.

The last picture might give you an idea of the depth of the display. Really, it is quite eerie with a raven perched up there and bats hanging by fishing line. I think it was meant to be.

Loopy and I are on the way out the door to do a "drive by pumpkin" give. There is a little family living next door to The Fan and they've had a run of bad luck this year. A single mom lives with her two children, I think times have been hard for them lately. In the dark, we are going to shimmy up the driveway like catburglars and put a Halloween pumpkin in their porch. I have some crazy Halloween confetti to sprinkle on the step too... wish us luck!

You sound so much better today - I was admiring all the gleaming surfaces you really have worked hard - and it's fantastic. All that spooky stuff in an older home is so.......spooky?
Good luck with the pumpkin delivery.
Have a great weekend!

I am so excited about the pumpkin what fun, I want to do that it should be a challenge to leave some pumpkins with a little fairy glitter dust behind, and your home I love it, the mantel is awesome, I love the black branch, I will be posting more of my halloween decorating tomorrow, hugs, lisa

LOVE the mice, how cute!! The pumpkin is GREAT but thinking if she has 2 kids maybe you should take 2? If they are carving age anyways :O)

I'm disappointed that you aren't leaving the layer of dust. No haunted house I know is dust-free. Shameful. I shake my head.

Yummy... black licorice! But not the North American black licorice ~ Australian or Dutch please! Make mine double salted, chalk, with a touch of mint, you get the idea. Yummm, black licorice... (The Australian brand is available at Walmart).

That looks fantastic! Love those glitter skulls... Martha was really onto something with that! I never thought to do something with the stairs.. I need to get the rest of my stuff out of storage. Hope your pumpkin delivery went well!

I've never seen Halloween done so well!

Kudos!

Love it!!! Your place is to die for!

I have been working on my bats for a few days now. I would love me some rats but I have no stairs. They look so good in stairs! Oooh and your branches, so spooky.

Sounds like you are feeling a bit better. I am sure your recipients will be smiling and wondering who the pumpkin fairy was.

We mostly decided to just take the one because the pumpkins at the store weren't as nice as they could have been... we wanted one with a nice stem, this was it! One perfect pumpkin. They can enjoy it together.

Everything looks wonderful! And I'm sure the mom and kids will be delighted with the surprise. I imagine she will leave the pumpkin on display for all 3 of them to enjoy.

That's candy sure wouldn't last long in our house! Nice green skulls too ; )

Love the mantle! And I want some of those cute mice on my stairs - adorable! I wonder if my cats would think they are real?

How incredibly sweet of you to leave that pumpkin. I'm loving your cake pedestal. Clever girl!

I am a HUGE fan of the crazy branches--I paint mine silver and stuff them in garden pots with greens at Christmastime. But I digress--the mice are adorable and I like the skulls under glass--so civilized. Happy pumpkin-giving! You're such a sweetie.

Love the mice on your stairs, mine are carpeted, wish they weren't. Your mantelpiece decor is gorgeous and very creative no matter what Veto thinks.

Hi
I don't know if Benny told you, we bought the house next to G and Remp's. We are now knee deep in reno's and looking at different appliances. Due to my lurking, I know you just got some delivered. What did you end up buying?
Hope everything is going well.

You are so CRAFTY! And just a genuinely GOOD person. We could definitely use more Saucies in the world. (: P.S. like the skulls under the glass better.

Love the photos. They are great inspiration. I also like your pumpkin delivery as well as the other giving challenge ideas.

Skulls under glass rock! But the little mousies on the stairs are my favorite.

I so understand about Loopy's Aspergers. It sounds like we likely have some of the same challenges around melt downs, not fitting and the hit their self esteem takes over time. It is a tough path at times...

Love the pumpkin fairy!
How sweet!

I love the Halloween decor. Especially the mice on the stairs and the branch on the mantle. I wanted to do something similar, but we're not around for much of October and it seemed like a wasted effort. I have that same cake stand!

We have a mice invasion too! I love the branch but at my house it definitely would poke an eye out!

Shelley, we went with the Whirlpool gas oven and the LG bottom-mount fridge... come over to see them if you want! I lurrve my bottom mount fridge, we had the Maytag version before and loved it too! Our dishwasher is Maytag too and I absolutely love it to bits. We took out the Bosch that was here and put it in our flip house, the Maytag was better. We had it at the Willows too.

Sassy: the mice are Martha Stewart's halloween craft collection... check Michaels or Wal Mart, but last year they were sold out quickly! Try the west side Wal Mart, they usually have extra when Stonebridge is out.

your haunted house looks SPOOKTACULAR, Saucy ... I love all the touches, but that mantle branch is the best ... though the candy jars are pretty wicked cool, too ... dang. I can never pick just one thing ... ah well.

I love that you and Loopy are making the anonymous pumpkin delivery ... I am sure it will be appreciated. :)
