Welcome to our haunted Halloween home. I cleaned most of it today, but I saved the kitchen (the worst part) for tomorrow. Veto took us for pizza tonight so I could avoid the task for one more day. Things are almost back to normal... except for the spooky stuff, like bats flying around the hallway!
Little mice scampering about the stairs...
Martha Stewart and I glittered up the same kind of skulls and bones. Do you like them under the glass...
... or on their own?
I stuffed some jars with Halloween candy. Buddy snitches the licorice when he thinks I'm not looking, but really, who cares? It's licorice. Yuck.
I'm the most thrilled with the mantle display this year. The city workers closed our street last week and trimmed the tree canopy. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves but this knarled branch was left behind. It must have been fate. It met up with a can of black spray paint this week.
Now, it is perched up there very precariously. In fact, close examination will reveal it is supported with a little system of fishing line and push pins. These photos really don't do it justice at all.
It's a massive branch, and it protrudes from the wall behind the mantle quite a bit... making it a little... risky. Someone might get an eye poked out. Veto was not impressed. This is one of my wacky ideas he won't warm up to.
The last picture might give you an idea of the depth of the display. Really, it is quite eerie with a raven perched up there and bats hanging by fishing line. I think it was meant to be.
Loopy and I are on the way out the door to do a "drive by pumpkin" give. There is a little family living next door to The Fan and they've had a run of bad luck this year. A single mom lives with her two children, I think times have been hard for them lately. In the dark, we are going to shimmy up the driveway like catburglars and put a Halloween pumpkin in their porch. I have some crazy Halloween confetti to sprinkle on the step too... wish us luck!
