pants, cakes and cupcakes

Dear reader, it is all about the pants. A certain pair of Levis boot-cut 518's. Tonight caught opening night of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. If you're a fan of the books, don't expect book two, expect an adaptation of book four, called movie two. I won't spoil it for you, just don't go in expecting film two like book two, that's all I'm sayin'.

As you know, Loopy and I do enjoy a good project, a good book and an excuse to dress up. Tonight we had all three of these pleasures rolled into one. First, let me show you what we made for Loopy to wear to the show:

What you see here is pretty much her own replica pair of the famous wandering pants. It was quite the undertaking, even finding the right style and fit of blue jeans was a chore. You may also remember that we both have a touch of OCD and they had to be just right.

And let me just say this about that: the bookstore patch is not quite large enough and I fear that despite my best efforts it will become lost or damaged... I plan to embroider the pocket before school starts. Like in the movie, Loopy plans on adding on to her jeans. Is there anything cooler than perfectly-fitting, faded, bedazzled, ripped, worn, torn, beaded, embroidered Levis? I think not.

I promised photos of Lecia's diaper cake. I finished it between all of that pant-decorating today. Check out the details in the photos below. The ephemera is from Tres Jolie and Bohemia. I used real ribbon and buttons and some of my own fancy scraps to finish it off.

Dont' forget to put a little something on top of your diaper cake... I like to use small stuffed animals and decorate them to match the cake, too.

Here is the beloved Loopy, looking positively mortified that I am taking her photo a la touriste in front of the movie poster tonight.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is officially one of my favourite movies of the summer. Amber Tamblyn steals the show as Tibby. The storylines are excellent and now I will throw around phrases like "character-driven" and "plot devices" without telling you what happens but you will know, dear reader, that it is worth checking out. And the man-candy. Serious, cross-cultural, man-can-day.

I baked these five cupcakes for the sisterhood myself. One for each of the girls and the other is for Loopy. Deeeelicious. Oh, and I cried at the end. I really did. It could have been the prednisone, the estrogen or the lack of sleep because of the pant decorating... but I shed a few.

Thanks for the review - I was wanting to get the girls together to go see this but I was a little afraid of being disappointed.

GREAT job on the diaper cake! Almost makes me wish for a baby shower invite.

Lizzie's daddy likes to take her to movies by I think this one should just be her and I. I love the pants and I'm sure you and Loopy had a great time making them.

Hi Saucy :)

Those pants are really cute :) If I wasn't so ancient I'd wear them LOL

It looks like everyone had a great time at the wedding :)

It really is for mature girls! Don't take anyone under 12, unless they've had "the talk"... you get my drift.

So CUTE! I'm living vacariously through all your creative ideas.. first the Lime and now the pants.

I'm throwing a shower in the winter and am trying to figure out how to copy your lime stuff right now.

Maybe I'll combine them and have a Pants Decorating shower.

Nikki... I left a comment on your blog. No secrets here, the wallpaper in my hallway/laundry area is by Farrow and Ball. Check out their website... click on "The Silvergate Collection" I think mine is #872... blue with pewter print. It is hand pulled and therefore has the wonderful imperfections of handprinted wallpaper. One wall of my bedroom is #875.

If Veto asks, I got it on sale.

Hi: the fan here: My dear, sweet Loopy - what a face she gave us in front of the movie poster! She was so anxious to get inside - and saucy is right. Careful on the age appropriate-ness. But a really fun night out!
Also, niki, saucy will eventually get around to telling you about the wallpaper source - she is never one to hold back on a source or a recipe or a 'how to'(it's the teacher in her bones!) I was with her when she chose it - it is fabulous robin egg blue with bronze-goldish-silverish-brownish over-print. It is just dee-vine, I tell you - and the photos don't even begin to do it justice. We just have to find a minute to get to the wallpaper store. One of the shabby, narly little discount stores we haunt is in that area - so just hold on to yer hat! xoxo the fan

Thanks for the heads up. I loved the first one and will indulge the second one soon.

(And I'm sorry about the Prednisone. It may effect our weight differently, but it is havoc to the emotions, to be sure. Take care.)

Hee hee ... I love the look on your daughters face. It's priceless.

I have a freshly minted 15 year old daughter who is frequently embarrassed by her 'uncool' mom. Every girl needs a little mortification now and then : )

This is one of the cutest things I have ever seen on a blog! You should seriously write a book filled with ideas for mothers and daughters to do together - I would buy it!

Cheers,
