what james taylor said to me

Last night was the concert of a lifetime! Front row seats for James Taylor and his Band of Legends. I was so excited. I knew I would approach the stage at some point for his autograph... being somewhat of a crazed fan and all. Not really crazy. Maybe just a little crazy. Crazy enough to make him a batch of cupcakes:

I decided to wrap just one perfect cupcake in a box for him and as soon as the concert was over... just before the encore... I jumped up from my seat and took four huge steps forward... and handed him his cupcake.

I don't remember too much else other than what he said to me. I don't remember exactly what I said to him, something along the line of "I made this just for you" and I remember the look of surprise on his face and he took the pen from my hand and signed the photo of him I was holding.

Actually, he said "why wasn't that was thoughtful - thank you, let me sign that"... just as I planned he would. Then, using the same pen - the Sharpie Marker that I will now place in a locked place of safekeeping - he signed another lady's LP and then he left the stage. Just like that. Carrying my gift.

The concert was amazing. He sang all the oldies but goodies - well not all of them - but all of the ones I wanted to hear. What song was he singing when he looked into my eyes?

He glanced at me during Mexico - I thought I would die. I love that song.

But our eyes locked during Carolina in My Mind and I think he knew I was packing baked goods and he was trying to focus on me. And for a good long time, mind you.

I think it helped that I wore white pants and a hot pink blouse. He was able to pick me out of the crowd, do you think?

The security guard saw my baked goods early on and offered to take them backstage. I declined, knowing there was the possibility of a better outcome. He told me that the first few rows were allowed to approach the stage... who knew? He wished me luck.

The camera operator said that James Taylor is the nicest man in the world, and now I, Saucy, can vouch for that. Because he spoke to me. And he sang to me. And he took one of my cupcakes. What do you think of that?

I'm so happy for you! Sounds like a memorable evening! You'll look at your cupcakes hereafter and think of your encounter with JT!

Hurray! I'm so glad you had such an awesome evening and were successful in your cupcake venture! This just solidifies my belief that JT a) is AWESOME and b) would totally be my soulmate if he weren't married and older than my dad.

Sigh. Just look at those eyes. And don't you love Arnold McCullum? His solo on Shower the People makes me melt.

You're too funny! Remember the adage, "All good things come to she who waits"? I dare you recall the infamous 'War of 1996'.There were the two headstrong adversaries (me)and YOU, who wanted to drive ALONE to North Dakota, or Montana, or Walla Walla or Peoria or someplace gawdforsaken like that, to see James in concert. You stamped your foot and demanded that I understand "this was a PILGRIMAGE dammit"and did I not understand your allegiance to JT?! Well, I won the war..you stayed home.
Now,all these many years since our 'Big Battle', Dear Sweet Veto took all four of you right to the front row so you could deliver the spoils of (your not-so-secret) war..well, alright,it was simply a cupcake. Dang, my analogy was going real well until the last part of the story. xoxo the fan

You are very considerate. I am not sure I would have thought to take him a gift, but I am sure glad (for your sake) that you were allowed to give it to him (and to talk to him)!

So happy for you!

do you really think he's going to eat it? He is either going to place it in a safe place.....like you're doing with the sharpie......or he's going to rub it all over his body first. :)

I love that you did that and that he didn't hustle security all over you. It IS true love!

This sounds like your perfect evening. Cupcakes, James Taylor...I don't know anyone else who would bake before going to a concert. Glad you had such a 'swoony' time.

That is impressive strategic cupcake gifting autograph getting. Well done!

Unfortunatley, don't cry now, I don't know who James Taylor is...but I promise to go find out. Right now.

wicked cool! (though I must admit I am a bit envious that it was he who ended up with a Suacy original cupcake and not me ... giggles).

Glad you had a most excellent experience. :)

Oh, now I know you are the coolest. I love, love, love James Taylor and have been listening to one of his greatest hits cds for a couple of days since my hubby bought it to replace the vinyl I sacrificed in our young, lean, sell your records for food days. I've never seen him in concert, but I live vicariously through you. You are awesome and so is "the fan".
