cupcake movie review

This weekend we went to see Get Smart, the movie based on the TV series from the sixties... but you knew that, didn't you? If you're of an age, you surely remember the cone of silence and the shoe phone.

I watched Get Smart almost every day after school, before the Hogan's Heroes, or Match Game 77 or something like that. I thought I remembered all of the comic bits like "sorry about that chief" and "missed it by that much" but as it turns out, I didn't remember them at all and found myself smiling when Steve Carell said them. He is the perfect new Agent 86. Anne Hathaway is also perfectly cast as Agent 99... but you knew that already too of course from seeing the trailers.

The only problems I had with the movie were a few little editing things that didn't make sense to me... I suspect a fair amount landed on the cutting room floor in order to prevent the show from getting too long, but a few little things were lost.

Also... maybe I don't remember enough about the original: did Max ever really end up with Agent 99 in the show or was it a prolonged anticipated hookup like on Who's The Boss? Somehow I don't remember that part, but correct me if I'm wrong. I was more interested at the time in what Agent 99 was wearing, and she still has a great wardrobe.

3.5 cupcakes out of five for lookin' so good.

Hubs and I saw it, and I loved it! I think Steve Carrell is one of my favorite actors. Did you see Dan in Real Life? He's so versatile! I like Anne Hathaway, too. :)

We were going to see it last night and I was too tired from work...

I will still check it out though....

We saw it Friday night and LOVED it! I agree, the casting is PERfect, and Anne Hathaway is just as fashionable as Barbara Feldon in the series.

I had forgotten about the line "...Would you beleive....." followed by some ridiculous guess, and it cracked me up. The series used to hint at Max and Agent 99 being 'an item' but no kising back then, nuh uh!!!

We just found out that Get Smart reruns are still on TV - waaaaay up on our cable channels, on Tuesday nights. We have a reminder set so we won't miss it!

Yeah in the old series, which still reruns on my RTN oldies network, they did hook up, so much so infact that they married and 99 had twins (I'd say that was pretty hooked up)!

I loved the old series, even got my kids enjoying it, and I sometime wish they would just leave well enough alone. While I am sure the movie was good, I just love the classics and I don't like things obscuring what I envision them like.

I love anything with Steve Carrell so this sounds like a fabulous movie. Anne Hathaway is adorable too!

I saw this last week. Loved it! I think Steve Carell is hilarious. I watch almost everything he is in. Anne Hathaway is beautiful as usual. I would watch Get Smart over and over on TVLand when it was on. I think your rating was fair. :)

I'll admit to being a Steve Carrell fan (& also liked Dan in Real Life).

This is on my rental list! (But then, I rarely get to the theater ~ last to Marie Antoinette ~ so virtually everything is on my rental list!!)

Annie didn't like it, but she had never seen the TV show. I think it's more for those of us that have memories of it.... which, I'm too young for ... LOL.... I wish!

I'll have to check it out :)

rue
