My posts may be sporadic for the next little while. I'm traveling to Toronto to meet with my doctors to discuss the results of my MRI in January.
As I have mentioned here before, I have a pituitary microadenoma. This is a very, tiny (nano) growth on the pituitary gland. Do you know of anyone else who has this? You may think you don't, but the statistics say that as many as three in ten women have this disorder, which often goes undetected. Three in ten! Since I mentioned before that I'm good at math, that's thirty percent!
The symptoms of pituitary disorders can include: weight gain, loss of memory, hot flashes (particularly at night), vision disturbances, high blood pressure, lethargy, inability to sleep, muscle weakness and joint pain. The pituitary gland is "command central" of so many things in your body. You can read more about it here, here or here.
The good news is, pituitary tumours are rarely life-threatening and very treatable. In reality, I've had mine for several years... I was diagnosed in 2001 and we've been watching it very carefully for this entire time. It may be time to change my course of treatment, but I won't know that until I talk to the busy professionals in expensive suits. That's what I'm off to do. I tried to leave yesterday, but my flight was cancelled due to weather. I'm rebooked to fly this afternoon.
I will try to post any news here while I'm away. We'll be spending the weekend with Veto's family in Ontario. Wish me luck!
