Well la-dee-dah! Here is our little prom queen, off and ready to go to her Halloween party. The dress is Grandma's real prom gown! Loopy has decided she wants to really wear it to her own prom in six years. We made her a ridiculous corsage and she is using one of my old evening bags and I dug the long gloves out of the tickle trunk. Thank goodness we had it all at hand. I had no idea what she wanted to be until this afternoon! For those of you who know who Mo Jackson is, Sidney said she really wanted to be Mo's cousin Jo, the "Trailer Park Debutante"... I don't know if Grandma will be too thrilled about that description along with the use of her beautiful dress, but trust us Grandma, it's a compliment.

Whaaaa...."Trailer Park"??? I'll have you know that The Class of 1960 was very la dee da! I had about six starched, frilly crinolins- that skirt stuck out so far, I could hardly sit in Bob's Edsel (it was lavender and white, if memory serves). The dress cost $80.00 and my shoes (white high heels) cost $100.00. This was 1960 when a hundred bucks was a hundred bucks! And the DJ played 45's - the most romantic slow dance to some guy singing something about "A White Sport Coat and A Pink Carnation"... oooh big sigh...and now my Sweet Loopy thinks it's Trailer Somethin'????? harrrumph!(did I mention the hairdo? A Beehive - we called it. Made me almost six feet tall! All the better to slow dance with Sweet Bob...more sighs)
Oh I love these pictures.
And being a Nana myself, I'm sure Grandma would be very happy to have her gown used by Granddaughter.
Well la-dee-dah for sure! She's absolutely beautiful and did cousin Jo proud indeed!
I loved seeing this and you did such a nice job with the doo dads too!
I so enjoyed hearing "The Fan's" story about the dress too!
Thanks sweeetie for the kind words today. I needed them.
Sid you looked stunning as I'm sure the fan did the first time around! You must not have told your dad about the shoes costing more then the dress or promised that you would still wear them after Labor Day, for him not to worry. What a great memory! Good for you for keeping the dress and letting Sidney wear it. Hope trick or treat night was a successful one.
she looks like a fairy.. and it has a double effect.. wearing the dress of grandma..it will
double the memories that the dress has absorbed..
enjoy.. you too..
oh my gosh...that's my prom dress from 1961! i was crazy for the color and loved the "deep" hem. i wore my hair in a "flip". my date got me a white orchid corsage to wear on my wrist. this was in Long Beach CA. thanks for the memory trip. susan
